Courses Developed & Taught:
Foundations of Music Education, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 2550): Designed and executed the course, which explores the social, historical, and philosophical foundations of music and education, focuses on the exploration and application of music pedagogy, addresses professional, cultural, and moral challenges of art educators, provides opportunities to apply course content through service learning and field-related experiences.
Making Music with Diverse Learners, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 3502): Designed and executed the course, which explores and promotes inclusive instruction in music for diverse learners, identifies the needs and explores the accommodations available to support the engagement and learning of all students in a music classroom.
Music in Elementary School Education, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 3501): Designed and executed the course, which explores the interdisciplinary aspects of music in the non-music classroom in grades P-5 with a focus on the cognitive benefits of utilizing music while teaching and learning.
Teaching General Music in Elementary Schools, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 3503): Designed and executed the course, which explores philosophies, pedagogies, methods, curriculum, materials, and resources associated with general music in a public school setting. Emphasis is placed on grades P-5. Additionally, the course promotes the interdisciplinary nature of general music in the elementary school classroom and encourages collaborative project-based learning.
Teaching Instrumental Music in Public Schools, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 3505): Designed and executed the course, which is a survey of instrumental music programs, grades 5-12. Emphasis is on examination of appropriate teaching materials, teaching methods for various program levels, program planning and development, and evaluation of learner progress. Experience in planning and presenting model learning experiences in instrumental music is provided.
Applied Pedagogy of String Instruments, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 2503): Designed and executed the course, in which students explore a variety of pedagogical methods and materials for Stringed Instruments. Emphasis is placed on the demonstration of appropriate technique and diagnosis of pedagogical challenges in a lab setting.
Applied Pedagogy of Wood Wind Instruments, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 2503): Designed and executed the course, in which students explore a variety of pedagogical methods and materials for Woodwind Instruments. Emphasis is placed on the demonstration of appropriate technique and diagnosis of pedagogical challenges in a lab setting.
Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Pacific University (MUS 2/4353): Designed and executed the course, which is a performing ensemble comprised of string, select woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. The orchestra intentionally studies and performs music literature from diverse historical, cultural, and social contexts.
String Methods, Texas State University: Designed and executed course syllabus, scope and sequence, assignments and assessments for a special section of the course for non-traditional students.
Music Appreciation, San Marcos High School (9-12): Designed unique curriculum for the course specific to campus population and culture utilizing GT strategies and standards of instruction.
Pre-AP Music Theory, San Marcos High School (9-12): Designed unique curriculum for the course modeled after national collegiate standards in music theory.
AP Music Theory, San Marcos High School (9-12): Designed unique curriculum for the course integrated with music history modeled after national collegiate standards.
Middle School Orchestra (TEKS Level 1, 2, and 3): Designed and established middle school strings program for 6-8 grade on two separate campuses, scaffolded and differentiated for beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of instruction and learning.
High School Orchestra (TEKS Levels I-IV): Designed and established high school strings program for 9-12 grade scaffolded and differentiated for developing, intermediate, and advanced levels of instruction and learning.
